She loves every aspect of it, it would be difficult to pick a favorite. She loves the thrill of competing. The feeling of stepping out onto the mat and trying to prove yourself. The long and hard hours of training, perfecting her technique. But she also loves the community and family that she has built through this sport.
Her coach, Dave Sixel, and her many friends she has made through the sport. Dave has been training for 50+ years and has provided many opportunities as well as setting an amazing of example of being open minded and friendly in such a combative and aggressive sport. He encourages her to try her best and that winning isn't the only focus. She strives to make him proud.
I have to many proud moments to pick just one. My proudest moment is spread out over both world completions. Nicole is very engaging and friendly with all of the athletes and coaches from other teams, even those she competed against. She has found herself friends from all over the world by being herself and creating a space for all the competitors to forget the grudges and create bonds. It's a second nature to her. They were never viewed as the enemy by her, but as friends.
