My daughter is a competitive dancer and has recently become a part of World Performers Canada. She also won a ”best all around dancer” award

Nicole says, “Dance gives me a reason to keep going and to never give up. Ever since I was little, I’d always look forward to dancing after I’ve felt down about anything because I don’t like to talk about things, I prefer to dance them out.” She also enjoys setting a high bar for herself to improve and get better. “I’m not in competition with other dancers, I just like to try to beat my own goals. If I can jump this high, by next class, I’m trying to beat that and jump higher.”
Nicole gets inspired by other dancers that are in her dance studio and who she runs into at dance competitions. “Watching the passion and drive of dance from others is incredibly motivating. Especially when a dancer can perform the choreography well! My dance teachers also inspire me because I don’t want to let them down, so I’m always focused and willing to try things that I didn’t even think I could do! But they believe in me, so I continue to improve thanks to their support.”
I love that she was selected to represent Canada in both jazz and contemporary dance styles because her hard work and dedication to dance got noticed. She doesn’t think she’s a great dancer so this was a moment where she started to believe that perhaps she does have some talent. I am so proud that my girl got to travel to Burgos Spain and dance on the stage with countries around the world! She ended up getting a bronze medal at the Dance World Cup for Canada and it is definitely a highlight!
