Join the CompetitionNiko likes all aspects of wrestling, but his favorite thing about it is the intensity. It’s such a fast paced sport and requires a lot of discipline to even get through one round. It allows him to prove himself every time he practices or has a match. But even though it’s competitive, all the athletes have major respect for one another, because they know what it takes to even practice, let alone compete.
His first coach, coach James Gomez, has inspired him on and off the mat since he started. He has trained him for five years and he helped him learn what it actually means to be disciplined. His parents have also inspired him by supporting him in everything he does and helping him get through all the tough times he’s had in life and in wrestling. Of course his current training club, Mattime, has inspired him in big ways as well, pushing him to his limits and giving him what he needs to improve.
When Niko was a freshman in high school, he wasn’t just named the school stat leader and MVP of the wrestling team, but he also became league champ, got fourth in divisionals, and qualified for masters. As a young wrestler of five years against more experienced seniors in high school, it’s such an accomplishment that it says a lot about his work ethic over the years and his love for the sport.
