Oliver loves to continually improve. He enjoys the process, putting in the work, evaluating how he can get better, and going above and beyond what is being asked of him. This applies physically, mentally, and as a teammate and leader. He recognizes that baseball can be extremely mentally taxing because of the pressure placed on individual achievements, so he loves putting in the work to be the best version of himself for his team. And improvement always leads to more fun on the field!
A lot of people inspire me. Here are a few! 1. Mookie Betts. I admire his humility, his work ethic, and his talent. 2. My teammates who always come in clutch when it is least expected and most difficult. 3. My mom. She never stops pushing and teaches me to be a problem solver. 4. My coaches. They believe in me and want me to keep improving. 5. My family. I want them to be proud.
Oliver has always been a strong player, but he has never been a stereotypical "alpha" male. He is a quiet leader and defaults to kindness. Last year he was placed on an All-American team filled with boys who were talented, along with being very intimidating and aggressive. This was a very uncomfortable, trying situation for him; he nearly gave up. But he never strayed from his sense of self. In the end, he was motivated to improve as a player, without being intimidated out of being himself.
