What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Payton loves the thrills and excitement of Getting new skills. When she was younger she would watch the older girls tumbling and she would try to do what they were doing. Now she’s on the floor competing with them and still has the excitement on her face when she masters a new big skill or finally gets a routine/ skill she has been working on for months. She loves the fun and excitement that each day brings the the chance for a new learned skill and having fun with her teammates each day

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

As most gymnasts Payton looks at The Olympic athletes such as Sunni and Hezley, however she has had the opportunity to attend camps and connected with a few university of maryland college gymnasts who have inspired her. She got to work along side them and their coaches at camp who inspire her to work harder and focus on new goals and skills each camp. Seeing the excitement when she’s working with them and their coaches and the take away she gets each camp has had a huge impact on her.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Payton is one of the hardest workers I know. At 8 years old she was in the gym 18.5 hours a week. Her level 5 season wasn’t her best but she never quit and kept pushing forward towards her goals each practice and each meet. Despite struggling she still showed up worked and cheered for her teammates when they got skills she wanted. At the end of the season she was told she had to repeat the level. She was deviated but she didn’t quit worked harder and showed up each day to make it count.
