What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

The feeling that comes with playing football is what Rico loves most about the sport. It’s the butterflies in his stomach before he scores a touchdown, the rush of excitement when he busts out the Griddy in the in zone, the joy he feels when he hears his family cheering his name, the helmet taps from his teammates letting him know he did a great job, and the deep sense of belonging that comes with being part of something bigger than himself.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Rico finds deep inspiration in both his dad and his late Papaw Cliff. His father, Rico Sr., has been his coach, mentor, and biggest supporter since day one, instilling in him a love for the game and the values of leadership and character. Rico also plays in memory of his Papaw, carrying his spirit onto the field and honoring him with every touchdown. Together, they fuel his passion and purpose both on and off the field.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

The moment that makes me proudest in Rico’s athletic journey isn’t tied to a single play or game, it’s seeing how hard he works to improve himself. Football is his passion, but this year he stepped out of his comfort zone and played baseball for the first time. The dedication he showed matched the same drive he has for football. That’s when I realized, my son has the potential to be great at anything he sets his mind to and will give his all 100% of the time.
