What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Riley loves the feeling of accomplishment after playing a game and knowing he’s put 110% effort into the game. He loves training because he sees the reward of his hard work when he experiences improved endurance and new skills are used which improve his performance. Lastly, building relationships with his teammates and developing new friendships is something Riley values and loves about hockey. Hard work, respect and dedication to the sport and camaraderie are what he demonstrates and values.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Off ice Riley’s inspired by Jacob Oettinger from the Dallas Stars because he loves his game play style and tries to translate it into his own style. Another off ice inspiration is Kobe Bryant as he admires his mentality and willingness to never give up. Riley often listens to speeches Kobe gave, prior to his games to help him get mentally prepared. On ice Riley was very impacted by his goalie coach Derrick Laporte who helped him completely changed his game and skill set for the better.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Riley is someone who always shows up and works hard no matter how challenging the game gets he does not give up. This also is true during tryouts, he works hard even when odds are against him. This year he wanted to tryout for his highschool hockey team knowing it is meant for those in 11th and 12th grade, he being a 9th grader. He played against very strong skaters, and many who are physically larger than him, he stood his ground and never gave up. He made the team as one youngest goalies ever!
