I’m not the fastest runner, so I know I have to hit harder and smarter to make it count. I like that baseball keeps me thinking. I feel like I’ve earned my spot, and that makes it worth it.
I look up to Cal Raleigh because he doesn’t make it about himself. He’s solid, focused, and doesn’t need to show off. He just plays hard and knows what he’s doing. I respect that. That’s how I try to play too.
He didn’t even want to play, we just encouraged him to try it so he’d stay active between football seasons. Now we watch him behind the plate, locked in, calm under pressure, and we just sit there shaking our heads. How did this become the thing he was made for? He walked away from football without looking back. Baseball is his everything now.
