The excitement of playing sports, on a field or on a race track is like nothing else. The anticipation right before kickoff or the drop of the green flag, it makes her happy. She plays soccer, basketball, loves to run, loves to races quarter midget race cars, and is a black belt in Taekwondo. All learning invaluable life skills and leadership habits.
Claudia Dickey, goal keeper for the Seattle Reign and USWNT, and her mom. Scotlyn models excellent emotional control and is often referred to as “Ice Cold” for consistently maintaining a level head during high-stress, competitive moments. Scotlyn also led a youth leadership team of 4th graders to hand-build the school's first soccer goals for the playground. Inspired to bring back Girls' soccer to the high school and empower young girls to play soccer.
One moment in her athletic journey that I am most proud of is the decision she made with a soccer game on the line. As the starting keeper, she chose to remain in as keeper for the second half to protect a one-goal lead in the championship game. Even though it was her turn to get some desired field time and let the other keeper play, her decision was for the team, and not her own interest. She placed the needs of the team above her own desires.
