Receive Text UpdatesSydney is a fierce competitor through and through. While she plays a few positions, her primary position is pitcher. Of course, pitcher is a highly visible role on the team. There is a lot of stress involved. Sydney handles things with grace, with confidence, and with ice water in her veins. She’s only 12 years old, but she shows composure way beyond her years.
Sydney draws her inspiration for the sport from Jala Wright and Nijaree Canady. Jala was an all-American pitcher at Duke University. The first college softball game Sydney ever attended was at Duke, she saw Jala pitch that game, and she’s been a fan of Jala’s ever since. Sydney also looks up to Nijaree Canady. Both Jala and Nijaree are strong influences in Sydney’s love of softball and pitching. She sees herself in their examples. She wants to follow in their footsteps.
If I had to choose one moment in Sydney’s athletic journey, I would say it was when she was voted Most Valuable Player on her middle school team this season by her coaches and teammates. Sydney was a sixth grader, and this was her first year of school sports. Her stats this year were phenomenal … 0.800 batting average, 6 home runs, 31 RBIs, 35 innings pitched, 10 wins, and 71 strikeouts. She was amazing, and it was impressive watching her at each and every game this season.
