When the pressures and stresses of the world begin to weigh on her, she turns to the game as a way to reset, refocus, and find peace. It allows her to channel her emotions in a healthy way, build confidence, and stay grounded. Through every challenge, basketball remains her constant and her escape.
Ta’Miyah finds inspiration both on and off the court from her late aunt Danielle (“ReeRee”), who passed away from cancer a few years ago. Losing someone so close at an early age taught her the importance of living with purpose and making every moment count. Her aunt’s memory drives her to chase her goals fearlessly and to never take time for granted. It reminds her to stay strong, focused, and not let fear stand in the way of her dreams.
One of my proudest moments was watching Ta’Miyah get fouled on a 3-point attempt with just 0.4 seconds left in a tough game early in her AAU basketball career. We were down by 2, and she calmly sank all three free throws to put us ahead. I was so excited I ran onto the court, only to get scolded by the other team’s parents. After the embarrassment wore off, all I felt was overwhelming pride in how clutch and confident she was in that moment.
