Jackie Robinson- The film 42 staring Chadwick Boseman has definitely been a big inspiration for Taj. One evening after watching the movie, he turns to me and says “ Dad one day I will be better than Jackie Robinson.” I responded with,” them are big shoes to fill.” Without hesitation he says “ I have big feet!”
This post season, Taj’s travel baseball team participated in an in town tournament without him. Not knowing, he and I attended his cousins game and were blindsided by seeing his entire team playing without him. As a parent I was furious, and decided to take him to different tryouts for different teams. He eventually got offers from all of the tryouts he attended. I laid them all out on the table, and he looks at me and said. “ I forgive my coach, I forgive my teammates, I want to stay.”
