What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

He loves the competition aspect of course but he loves the kids he plays with. He is an only child at home so he really values the others as his brothers and sisters.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

In BJJ, he is inspired by his direct coaches. When he started they all had blue belts and some just received their brown belts. In hockey he looks right at Wayne Gretzky. He plays 10u hockey at 7, like Gretzky did and he sees that and thinks he can make the show too.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

During a bjj competition when he was 4, he was losing 9-0 on the score card half way through. He didn’t quit, listened to his coaches corner and came back to win 11-9. At four years old, he overcame adversity and since then he has carried that with him through all aspects of life. He never quits, even when he’s got nothing left physically, mentally or emotionally.
