Vanessa loves competing against other exceptional athletes who have the same goals of winning and pursuing her dreams that she has had from a young age. She enjoys putting in the extra hours after practice and seeing the results in her play. She inspires others to work hard and keep their heads up by mentoring and staying after practice to build up her teammates.
The people who inspire her the most is God, Jesus, her family and the younger generation of future athletes. God and Jesus are huge part of her life! She leads prayer for whoever wants to join before games and looks to God and Jesus for guidance and wisdom to take her through journey of life. She looks to her family for love and support. Finally, she looks to the younger generation in hopes to inspire them to be the best that they can be.
There are several moments over the years that have made me proud, but there is one that sticks out. Going into her freshmen year of high school, she saw the gym wall where all of the Athletes of the Year were hung up. She expressed to me that her goal for high school was to get her name hung on the gym wall. She would go to two practices a day and lots of late nights doing homework. Her senior year she got athlete of the year and the triple threat award for 3 sport MVP, while having a 4.1 GPA.
