Join the CompetitionWalter loves being a leader and helping others. In football, basketball and track he gets to work hard, compete and help the younger kids learn and feel confident. Playing quarterback and being part of a team is teaching Walter how to stay focused and lead by example.
Walter is inspired by his uncle, Richard Bailey. ‘Uncle Ricky’ is deaf but he never let that stop him from chasing his football dreams. He played high school football on an all-hearing team, then went to play collegiate football at Gallaudet University. He overcame many challenges and never let his hearing be an excuse, which motivates Walter every time he steps on the field. His determination and love for the game serve as a reminder that with heart and work ethic, nothing can hold you back.
The moment we are most proud of was when Walter went to a football camp sponsored by a NFL player. He was so excited to attend and wanted to impress the pro player. But during the drills, he noticed a child with special needs struggling to complete the exercise. Without hesitation, he focused on the child and stepped in to help, staying kind and patient, even going over the directions and modeling the drill. That moment showed such character and heart. We were beyond proud.
