What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

I love the excitement of playing volleyball, the teamwork, setting my teammates up for success, which includes passing and hitting. I enjoy practices, games, tournaments, and making lifelong memories. I like the compliments I get about being Indigenous and my long braid. Volleyball teaches skills such as patience, sportsmanship, and kindness, both on and off the court. I also enjoy the challenges that come with playing in different provinces, against various teams, and forming new friendships.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

My mom inspires me. She introduced me to the game and is a strong Indigenous woman who kept playing even after I was born. I grew up in the gym with her teammates. Now she’s in a master’s program and still pursuing her passion. I strive to live the life she lives. I also look up to my dad, Carlyle, for the skills and patience he shows both on and off the court.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One moment I’m most proud of is being named MVP at Volleyball Canada Nationals. I’m also proud of playing in 2 to 4 age divisions above my own and representing my culture by proudly showing off my braids at tournaments. I hope to inspire and see more young Indigenous athletes competing at higher levels with me. I am also proud of learning to play every position in volleyball and mastering them, while also supporting my teammates and coaches in any possible way.
