I loves baton twirling because it is unique. I love competing individually and in teams. I love being in front of the judges and beating my previous scores or winning. I really love the bond I have with my teammates and the family we created. I love going to different provinces and states to compete, meeting new people and learning new things. I love the freedom to learn new tricks/skills and the satisfaction catching it for the first time or at a competition. I just love baton.
Siraya Franklyn inspires me on and off the competition floor. She is my baton big sister, my first coach that helped me discovered my passion for baton. She represented Canada at the International Baton Twirling Federation in Sweden, England, Italy and France. She tries her hardest knowing baton is not as popular as other sports and doesn't reap the same rewards. She will be a feature twirler in Florida this fall and it inspires me to be a future feature twirler. She inspires me to be better.
This year I competed at the US National Baton competition for the first time. It was my biggest competition. I was able to place top 10 in every event which was my goal. Medals are awarded to top 10. I placed 8th in the Majorette competition out of 36 athletes, 2nd in 2 baton out of 12, 2nd in xstrut out 15, 3rd in solo out of 13 and I competed in 3 baton for the first time and placed 4th out of 17. I was intimidated befoe going because these athletes are the best. I am very proud of myself.
