What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Alexa loves throwing both the shot put and discus on her high schools track and field team. She fell in love with the idea that a young, strong woman can show up and prove her strength and resilience in a sport that was designed for men. Proving that women may not be designed the same but that it does not mean they can not also be strong. She looks forward to pursuing track and field in college and beyond, because the only thing that holds one back is oneself.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Alexa is inspired by the many coaches that she has had in track and field as well as as a young gymnast and volleyball player. Sports have helped shape the young woman she is today, but the coaches that have touched her life are the reason the love of competition is so strong. She is also inspired by her parents, who have taught her to move through the world with kindness and compassion as well as instilled an intense drive to conquer her own insecurities and life challenges.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Alexa has always had the absolute best sportsmanship. She will lift up any athlete, regardless of their skill level. Inspiring the younger athletes to also hold their heads high and cheer on the other athletes. Sports bring us all together to do something we love, so why not make it as enjoyable for everyone as possible. We are all so very proud of the kind, strong, amazingly gentle soul that is Alexa Madland.
