What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Alexia loves the excitement of flag football—the thrill of making a big catch, juking a defender, pulling a flag to save a score or getting a pick-6. She also loves the finer points: reading routes, anticipating where the ball is going, taking the right angles to make a play. But what she loves most is being part of a team: encouraging teammates, celebrating TDs together with hugs and high-fives, learning the intricacies of the game, displaying excellent sportsmanship and making hcoaches proud.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Christian McCaffrey inspires me with his consistency and discipline. I had the opportunity to interview him, which made me admire him even more. Tom Brady inspires me because he overcame doubts to become the greatest ever, reminding me to believe in myself and never give up. Isabella Geraci inspires me because she plays my position for the U.S. Women’s National Flag Football Team. Meeting her showed me what I can work toward someday.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

In the final minute of a close game, Alexia, playing man coverage at cornerback, recognized a receiver’s route and told our middle linebacker to anticipate a short pass over the middle. The MLB listened, jumped the route and scored the game-winning pick-6. No one was happier than Alexia. That moment exemplifies her intelligence and unselfishness. She didn’t need to be the hero. She put her teammate in position to succeed and was the first to celebrate with her.
