What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Antonio loves that rodeo challenges him to be better every time he backs into the box or enters the arena. He loves the partnership with his horses, the adrenaline of competition, and the friendships and camaraderie that come with the sport. Most of all, he loves the opportunity to carry on the traditions of ranching and rodeo, compete alongside his family, and learn that both winning and losing can make you stronger.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Antonio is inspired most by his family, especially his parents and grandparents, who taught him that hard work, humility and perseverance matter more than a trophy. He is also inspired by the young cowboys and cowgirls he competes alongside, especially those who encourage others and keep showing up after a tough run. His faith in his family, his Western heritage and the future of rodeo motivates him to lead by example.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

The moment that makes us proudest isn't a single buckle or championship. It was watching Antonio step into a leadership role beyond the arena and represent young rodeo athletes as the 2025–26 International Junior High Rodeo Vice President. Seeing him use his voice to serve others, represent New Mexico and advocate for the sport he loves showed us that rodeo is shaping more than an athlete—it is shaping a leader. We are proudest of the young man he is becoming.
