Learn MoreAriyah loves the freedom she feels in the water and the challenge of becoming stronger with every swim. In a sport where few girls look like her, she proudly enters the pool with her sister locs and her confidence intact. She refuses to let statistics, stereotypes, or expectations define what she can achieve. Swimming gives Ariyah a place to compete, grow, focus, and discover just how powerful she can be.
Ariyah is inspired by her parents, who model perseverance and achievement as education leaders with doctoral degrees. Her mom earned her EdD in 2024, and her dad earned his PhD in 2007. Her dad also trains beside her, attends every practice, and challenges her to think beyond the stopwatch. Their conversations about discipline, emotions, choices, and growth teach Ariyah that becoming a champion begins with developing the mind.
Our proudest moment came when Ariyah met Dr. Jim Cain, Klein Cain High School’s namesake, and learned he is a cancer survivor. Inspired, she discovered the American Cancer Society’s 5-mile swim challenge and asked to raise funds in his honor. Watching her connect someone’s story to her own gift for swimming showed us something greater than athletic talent: Ariyah was learning to swim with purpose.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Youth Athlete of the Year, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
