What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Ashanti loves the competitive energy that goes along with playing basketball. She has always been the type of person to push herself far beyond her limits, just to achieve a goal. She also really loves the different opportunities she gets exposed to because of her sport. She has been able to coach teams, assist at camps, referee at games, and be a leader and mentor to others with the same passion as her.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Her biggest inspiration on and off the field is her family. She is always supported by her family and is always proud to have us around during games, practices, awards, and anything else. We inspire her and push her to be the best she can be, always showing her that she has so much potential and all it takes is the effort and determination to get her to wherever she wants to go.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One moment in her athletic journey that makes me proudest is when she was able to grow from her time as captain on her school's JV team. She wasn't pleased with the outcome at first but then she later realized that this was another opportunity she could use to learn from. Now she has the experience of leading a team and is equipped with all the right qualities of a varsity captain, which she has been given the spot for.
