What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreAvery loves playing football, basketball, and soccer, but football is his favorite. What he loves most about sports is being part of a team—working together, encouraging each other, competing, and having fun. He enjoys knowing everyone has a role to play and that they can accomplish more when they work together.
Avery is inspired most by his mom, dad, and coaches. His parents’ encouragement gives him the confidence and motivation to go out and do his best, while his coaches’ guidance and constructive criticism give him the tools to keep improving. He also looks up to Saquon Barkley, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, A.J. Brown, and Justin Jefferson. Having played their positions, Avery hopes to one day reach that level and inspire other young athletes the way they inspire him.
My proudest moment came after Avery’s team lost their final game following an undefeated season. Despite feeling disappointed, Avery continued encouraging and cheering on his teammates. Instead of showing a poor attitude, he accepted the loss as a learning experience and congratulated the other team. Seeing him choose sportsmanship, resilience, and leadership in a difficult moment made me prouder than any touchdown ever could.
