What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Temi can dominate most sports upon first introduction and thrives on the pure adrenaline and love of the games. He’s multitalented and can play football, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, motocross, and soccer but mostly loves the competitiveness and camaraderie of AAU basketball he plays for in his city. He’s developed close friendships and he loves to show his teammates that loosing is not the end of the world and winning is just the beginning.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

His dad is a native Nigerian and lover of soccer. He grew up facing many challenges and was able to learn from each while quietly being molded into the amazing dad he is today. Temi is inspired by his dad’s persistence and drive to succeed. He teaches him on and off the field to always stay focused and positive and not to be controlled by defeat nor anger.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Temi was once an angry little boy who faced a lack of diversity at his local elementary school. He was overwhelmed as a 2nd grader and didn’t understand racial injustice. He found unity, brotherhood, and a sense of belonging through basketball and being on a diverse team of players that all share a common interest. He was able to recognize himself as value amongst his peers and has grown confident in not only himself but others. Now as a 6th grader he’s wise beyond his years and unstoppable.
