What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Azariah-Mekhi Spencer, has a deep passion for boxing. He thrives on the chance to compete against some of the finest amateur boxers in the United States. This journey has also allowed him to travel, and he has been fortunate enough to meet legendary fighters like Michael Spinks, James Toney, Roberto Duran, Roy Jones, and Michael Nunn. Each of these icons has shared invaluable advice with him about the sport.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

My grandparents are my greatest source of inspiration, encouraging me to exert more effort than anyone else. Without their unwavering support, I would not have developed my skills to the level I have today, and I am truly thankful for all they do for me on a daily basis. They also generously cover all my travel expenses for tournaments and drive me to and from practice two hours a day, five days a week. When it comes to boxing, their cheers instill in me the confidence that, I will win.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One of my proudest moments in Azariah’s boxing journey to date was watching him make the decision to compete in the 2026 Junior Olympics, despite being diagnosed with tendinitis in his left hand and right hip flexor. His determination to step into the ring and fight through adversity demonstrated not only his skill, but also his heart, discipline, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the sport. Azariah battled through the pain, gave it everything he had, came home 3rd place and #3 in the US.
