What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Ben likes the physical and mental challenge of wrestling. It is important to be disciplined, hard working, and determined to do well in the sport. He commonly wrestled opponents 40-70 pounds heavier than him making his matches very challenging. The pressure of wrestling larger and older opponents with more experience throughout the season required him to be mentally and physically tough.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

His coaches. His coaches inspire him because they pushed him to continually get better. They believed in him which helped him believe in himself making him gain the confidence to win tough matches throughout the season. They also helped him bounce back from tough losses by coaching him to learn from his mistakes.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

When he achieved his goal of winning the state wrestling heavyweight title. Ben worked very hard prior to and during his first high school wrestling season. The key ingredients were discipline, strong work ethic, obedience, and perseverance. We are also really proud of how he practices good sportsmanship on and off the mat.
