What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreSyd would say “winning!” but she doesn’t always win. Swim is such a discipline and most times you’re swimming against a clock for a time, not the person next to you. Honestly, I think she enjoys just being naturally good at her sport.
If she was really honest, she’d say her older sister is who she looks up to…but mostly I think she does it for herself. She likes to push herself, she likes to challenge herself and swimming is the perfect vehicle for that.
Syd is a clutch athlete-she comes through in the crunch. She made all of her state cuts last year (4 as a freshman) at her conference meet which is the last chance to get your state qualifications. Her 8th grade year she qualified for every event at the state level. That was quite the feat-and it was her goal for the year.
