Brody

Brody is the hardest-working and most determined young athlete I've encountered. His stature is small but his heart is huge. He's amazing.

What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Brody thrives in situations where he is doubted... doubted by coaches, parents, players, scouts, and trainers. Basketball is a big man's sport, and Brody stands at 5'08". His mentality is that he has to play harder and play smarter than everyone else on the court. His size is only an issue if he allows it to be. Brody plays with great effort and physicality, and he is as skilled as any player in Iowa. Brody loves to compete and has a God-given will to win. No moment is too big.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Brody is most inspired by Kobe Bryant. Kobe is the epitome of hard work and commitment to a craft. Brody has leaned on Kobe's wisdom and skill by reading his books, studying his habits, and watching his highlights. Kobe was bigger than life when he was playing basketball, but his influence on young people was magnified after his tragic passing. Brody is also Christ-centered and leans on his faith. In times of adversity, he finds himself reading his bible and sharing his thoughts about it.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Brody was 8 years old competing in a TaeKwonDo tournament. He was in the sparring championship. He had to face a much older, more experienced foe. The championship was a best of three matches. Brody lost the first match. He looked uncertain. His foe approached him and told him he was sorry he kicked so hard in a condescending way. Brody's eyes changed. He was angry. He soundly won the next two matches and his foe left the mat crying. Brody showed who he is on the inside that day!
