What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

What Daicen loves most about playing basketball is the feeling of being part of something bigger than himself. He loves the competition, the excitement, and the challenge of getting better, but most of all, he loves the bond he shares with his teammates. There’s something special about working hard together, trusting one another, celebrating the little victories, and knowing that every person on the court is counting on him. Basketball gives Daicen a place to grow, to push himself, and create.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Daicen’s cousin, Caleb Hood, is someone who inspires him both on and off the court. Watching Caleb pursue his dreams and play football for the UNC Tar Heels has shown Daicen what it looks like to stay committed, work through challenges, and carry yourself with discipline and humility. Caleb is more than just a role model because he’s family—he’s someone Daicen can look up to, learn from, and be proud of. His journey reminds Daicen that talent can open doors.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Was hearing his high school coaches speak about him and then seeing him receive the MVP award. It wasn’t just the award itself that made me proud—it was hearing his coaches recognize the person he has worked so hard to become. Knowing that they saw his dedication, character, leadership, and commitment to his teammates made that moment incredibly meaningful. As a parent, there is no greater feeling than watching your child’s hard work and dedication be displayed.
