What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

As the catcher and captain, Daniel eats up the energy in the dougout and treasures the friendships he has made through the years. He thrives on the responsibility of managing the game's tempo, earning the trust of his coaches and pitchers, and keeping the defense locked in.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Daniel's passion for sports is inspired by the other athletes in his family. His grandfather who played basketball and golf at USF, his uncle who played football at Cal and his own father who was a gifted multi-sport athlete. Growing up surrounded by talent and drive sparked Daniels love of baseball, golf and fishing.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

During a tournament, Daniel had an injury to his throwing arm. The backup catcher, who was an incoming Freshman, was asked to step in for Daniel. He immediately took the backup under his wing, sharing his view from behind the plate and helping him navigate the pressure. He proved that leadership isn't about the position you play, but how you elevate the people around you when things get tough. I couldn’t be prouder of his character and grit.
