What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreDavid loves wrestling because it is more than just a sport to him—it is a test of strength, courage, and determination. He enjoys the excitement of every match and the challenge of facing tough opponents. Wrestling has taught David to stay focused, work hard, and never give up, even when things get difficult. He loves the feeling of improving, learning new moves, and pushing himself to be better. Most of all, wrestling gives David confidence, discipline, and a sense of accomplishment.
David admires athletes with type 1 diabetes because they show him that diabetes does not have to stop him from reaching his goals. Seeing athletes manage their condition while competing at a high level inspires David to stay confident, work hard, and believe in himself. They remind him that challenges can be overcome with determination, preparation, and support. Their stories motivate David to keep pursuing the sports he loves and to never let diabetes define what he can accomplish.
As his mom, I remember when David was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It was scary, but what made me so proud was watching him refuse to give up wrestling. Even with new routines, checks, and challenges, he kept showing up to practice and matches. That moment showed me that diabetes wouldn’t define his limits, and I was incredibly proud of his strength, courage, and determination.
