What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

What De’Chez loves most about playing sports is the opportunity to compete, learn, and make the people around him better. Whether he is on the basketball court, baseball field, or football field, he enjoys being part of a team and understanding what he can do to help that team succeed. Basketball is his primary sport, and as a guard, De’Chez takes pride in more than scoring. He loves seeing the floor, finding an open teammate, playing defense, creating opportunities for others.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

De’Chez is inspired most by his family and the athletes who show that greatness is about more than talent. At home, he is surrounded by people who teach him that leadership means showing up, working hard, helping others, and being accountable even when no one is watching. His parents encourage him to dream big, but they also remind him that a dream means very little without the discipline and character required to pursue it. That foundation inspires De’Chez to want success.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One of the moments that makes us proudest of De’Chez happened when he was playing basketball while dealing with a badly jammed and swollen finger. After being evaluated and cleared to play, he could have used the injury as a reason to take it easy. Instead, he chose to compete. That night, De’Chez scored 18 points while also contributing assists, rebounds, steals, and defense. But the 18 points are not what made us proudest. It was watching a young athlete learn something and develop.
