What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreHe loves competing, learning new skills, and being part of a team. He gets excited about making a good play, but he also loves seeing his teammates do well. Even after practice, he wants to keep working. For him, sports are fun, but they’re also a chance to challenge himself and get better every day.
My son is inspired by his uncle, Pernell McPhee, who played in the NFL and recently retired as a Baltimore Raven. He looks up to him not only because of what he accomplished in football, but because he has shown him what hard work, dedication, and perseverance perseverance can lead to. Having someone in his own family reach that level motivates him to work hard, study the game, and dream big.
My proudest moments aren’t just touchdowns or big plays. It’s seeing his character at only 8, he asks to give his outgrown gloves, cleats, and other gear that are still in great condition to teammates who can use them. Seeing him care about his teammates while working so hard to improve makes me proud of the athlete and young man he is becoming.
