What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Ellie loves the competitiveness, physicality and mental determination required for both Hockey and Soccer. She likes how she has been able to play with and against likeminded players from all over Canada and the USA and has built long lasting friendships. She also likes to be a part of promoting girls succeeding in sports by giving back both on and off the ice/field. Lastly, she just loves the smell of the ice and the sounds of her blades carving into it.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Mike Pirri, Ellie’s hockey coach last year, inspires her because he never coached for himself, always for the team. He pushed them; knowing the right time to have fun and when to work. He guided and gave opportunities to succeed; coaching through support, trust and setting clear expectations. He saw her potential and held her accountable to reach it. He helped her to understand her limits and how to succeed by working to push them higher. He always lead by example which she emulates to this day.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Ellie’s growth as a player and person makes us the proudest. She is never just praised for her athletic abilities; rather coaches and parents notice her character, attitude and effort working in tandem with her skills. She has won medals and awards; but it’s her awareness and the hard work she puts in to achieve the standards that she has set for herself that makes us proud. She also believes in giving back and setting an example for the younger generations through charitable involvement.
