What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Most of the sports I play have such awesome community. We practice so hard to be the best but the friends I’ve made rather I win or loose has been great. It’s crazy to think we can compete head to head and still go hang out and laugh afterwards like the match never happened.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Off the field I’d have to say my parents, they have so much to do yet they make a 100% effort to put me first. On the mats / field I’d say the older teen competitors that always take time to work with me to get better and not stop pushing. Then the coaches that don’t stop working with me just because practice is over.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Emerson’s most recent Jiu Jitsu tournament, it was his first tournament as a yellow belt, there was no one in his belt, age or weight class and knew the odds were stacked heavily against him. He stepped out on the mat and competed like his life depended on it taking 2 of the best competitors in the country the end. His weekend didn’t end like he’d hoped but he walked off the mat with his head high. Even in defeat he left it on the mat.
