What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreEC loves the artistry of gymnastics - how dance can be incorporated and routines can tell stories. She also loves that there is no ceiling/limit to growth or what she can learn. There is always a new skill to learn, or even an old one to perfect. She loves that there is always opportunity for growth and change.
EC says her mama inspires her the most. She says her mama takes care of 4 kids, homeschools, works from home, and is constantly taking her for gym practice and pushing her to get better. Her mama also spent the last year taking care of a new baby and her own dying father (ECs papa) every day while still being there for “everything”. EC is also inspired by Shawn Johnson East. She herself is smaller in stature and often worries this will limit her - but SJE has so much power and encourages her.
EmyCate won a “heart” award at her first state competition. This was awarded to a gymnast who exhibited kindness and joy throughout the competition. A judge pulled her coach to the side and even praised how encouraging EC was to other gymnasts (even on other teams). EC also has chiari malformation, so any achievement in gym feels like an achievement in life.
