After 10 years of skating, I watched my daughter find the courage to heal, start over and discover her passion and strength in track & field

What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreWhat she loves most about throwing is the feeling of freedom and purpose it gives her. She loves setting goals, pushing herself, and seeing her hard work turn into progress. Most of all, track and field gave her a new passion and helped her believe in herself again.
Alyssa Liu and Valerie Allman inspire her on and off the ice. Alyssa Liu’s comeback after a two year break shows courage, resilience, and passion. She also proves figure skating is for all body types and success isn’t about appearance. Valerie Allman, Olympic discus gold medalist, is known for consistency, discipline, and calm confidence under pressure. Both athletes motivate her to stay confident, work hard, and trust her journey. She continues to learn from their example every day.
The moment I am proudest of is not a medal, it is the moment my daughter chose herself. After 10 years of competitive figure skating, she found the courage to walk away, ask for help, and begin healing. Watching her turn one of the hardest chapters of her life into a new beginning through track & field has been incredibly emotional. She found a new passion, a new purpose, and most importantly, herself. Seeing her smile, set goals, and believe in herself after so much trauma makes me proud of her.
