What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreGursher loves to see the hammer travel far. There is no better feeling than tossing something heavy and it just shoots out of your hands and travels across the field. This sport has given him so many opportunities and experiences. He has learned how to be resilient and adapt to all kinds of challenges. Everyday his body is hurting but he keeps coming back for the love of the sport.
Gursher’s biggest inspiration is his dad and sister. As a young boy, his dad was always his role model and was the figure that would teach him how to navigate the world. Without his dad, Gursher just wouldn’t be the same. His sister was his sports model. She was a thrower herself and represented Team Canada on multiple occasions. She has been teaching Gursher for the past 3 years and he is very thankful for her guidance.
This year, I had the opportunity to break the Canadian Hammer throw record. I knew I had it in me but I had only thrown 70 meters in practice and the record was at 73 meters. I didn’t know for a fact that I could break it. Just my family’s hopes. During the Legions Nationals, I was throwing far but I kept faulting. It was only on my last throw that I broke the record. I was shocked because there was so much pressure to not only win but to break the record.
