What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Halo believes in always getting better. After trying baseball, swimming, basketball, judo, and soccer, he chose soccer full-time at age 10. He loves the camaraderie, teamwork, and accountability that come with being part of a team. Soccer has taught him resilience, discipline, and leadership, and on tough days, he knows training will make him stronger—both physically and mentally.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

He says, “On the field, I’m inspired by Lev Yashin because he changed the way goalkeepers play with his confidence and leadership. I also look up to Gianluigi Buffon for his calmness under pressure and the way he always puts his team first. Finally, Vozinha from Cape Verde inspires me because he proves that no matter where you come from, hard work, perseverance, and belief can help you compete on the world’s biggest stage. Off the field, my parents for giving me the opportunity to be my best.”

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One of Halo’s proudest moments came this past spring when, after four years as a goalkeeper, his coach put him in at striker and he scored his first goal in years. What made it unforgettable was that his dad was there to see it. After being diagnosed with a serious illness in January, his dad passed away that May. Knowing that goal was the last game they shared makes every time Halo steps onto the field even more meaningful.
