What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreHana loves the feeling of clearing the bar after working toward a height that once seemed impossible. She loves the challenge of competing against herself and discovering how far she can go. But what she loves most may be the people she has met along the way—high jumpers from across the country who began as competitors and became friends.
Hana is inspired by the athletes she competes with—especially the high jumpers who continue to challenge themselves, overcome setbacks, and keep reaching for higher bars. She admires how they push one another to improve while still celebrating each other’s success. Through high jump, she has learned that your greatest competitors can also become your greatest friends and sources of inspiration.
The moment that makes me proudest was watching Hana become a national champion. But it wasn’t simply because she won. I was proud watching her stay calm, trust her preparation, and keep challenging herself. Afterward, seeing her congratulate and embrace athletes she had competed against reminded me that she had grown into more than a successful athlete. She had grown into someone who respects the journey, her competitors, and the sport she loves.
