His coaches are his big motivation for him. He listens well, goes to them for help in not only climbing related issues but also life problems as well. He was the youngest climber on our team when he first started climbing and he also looked up to the older climbers and would look to see how they handle themselves after they performed well or not.
Right before my son was to climb at provincials this year. He knew that the climbing wall he would be climbing on was much taller than any wall he has ever been on. So several times leading up to the competition we would drive the 2+ hours each way to climb at a gym with tall walls so he could overcome his fear of heights.
