What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

He loves scoring and the excitement of pulling through for his team. He also loves the competition and the challenge of becoming a better player. He enjoys learning from his coaches and teammates, and seeing his hard work pay off on the court. Basketball has become more than a sport for him, it gives him a place to challenge himself, have fun, and continue growing.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

He is most inspired by his late cousin. After being apart of many other sports, he found basketball and knew it was his passion. This was a passion they shared. His cousin practiced with him and was preparing to help him grow as a player when he tragically passed away. He honors his cousin by wearing his #3 and carries their shared love of basketball onto the court. He is determined to live out this passion for them both, turning his loss into motivation to work hard and make his cousin proud.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One moment that makes me proudest was when he was named Most Improved Player, the next basketball season after losing his cousin. Instead of giving up, he started the season just weeks later with a determination to succeed. His coach noticed how he came to every practice focused, prepared, & ready to work hard. Seeing his hard work and growth recognized was incredibly meaningful and showed me how he turned a painful experience into motivation. I will never forget watching his dedication pay off.
