What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreWhen asked, Jabari said, “It’s fun, I want to be the best, and I like making friends.” That really sums up his love for sports, he enjoys competing and challenging himself to improve, but he also values the friendships and connections he makes along the way. For him, sports are about having fun, growing, competing, and being part of something with others.
When I asked Jabari who inspires him, his first answer was, “You, Mommy.” 🥰 As his mother, that meant everything to me. In sports, he looks up to Patrick Mahomes, Terence Crawford, John Cena, Victor Wembanyama, Steph Curry and Michael Jordan. He admires their confidence, discipline, work ethic and determination to be great. I believe he sees qualities in them that he is developing in himself, working hard, competing with heart and always striving to improve.
What makes me proudest is watching his character grow right alongside his athletic ability. His sportsmanship stands out most—he handles wins with humility and losses with grace, always showing respect for his teammates and opponents. He’s dedicated to improving, willing to work hard, learn from mistakes, and come back better. Watching him understand that who he is matters just as much as how he performs makes me incredibly proud.
