What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreWhat he loves most is being part of a team, competing with his friends, and simply enjoying the game. He has fun, works hard, and loves being around the people who make sports special. More than anything, he loves being active, challenging himself, and making memories with his teammates. His passion and positive attitude are what make watching him play so special.
His dad and Papaw are two of his biggest inspirations, especially in baseball. They are both great players and have taught him so much about the game. As his stepdad, I’ve never played in a real game, but I try to give him a different kind of support—teaching him about perseverance, confidence, sportsmanship and life. He has also inspired me in ways he probably doesn’t realize. He’s a great kid with a big heart, and I’m incredibly proud of the person he is becoming.
The home runs and big plays are amazing, but I’m just as proud of how he handles the losses. He’s a pitcher in baseball, so we’ve had plenty of talks about keeping his cool and learning from mistakes. Watching him compete, overcome disappointment, and come back ready to try again makes me incredibly proud. The scoreboard doesn’t define him. His heart, determination, and ability to keep going do. I love him, and I truly believe he deserves the world.
