What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreI love that swim is both an individual sport and a team sport. I am responsible for my wins and losses. I learn from each race even if I don’t place. I know that my team is behind me cheering me on and I do the same for them. I like how much swim has made me push myself and my body. There is a new challenge every time I get in the pool.
Caleb Dressel inspires me because he gives his all with every swim. He sees his losses as a teaching moment and never gives up on himself. I love that he gets out in the community and talks to kids like me about training and preparation and pressure. He has fun as much as he competes.
The best moment in my athletic journey was winning the 200 free and 100 fly at state. I was seeded in the top 10 but not predicted to win. I placed 1st in preliminaries and 1st again in finals. I still hold the 100 fly record in the state of Colorado for 12 and under boys. The 100 fly was my nemesis for 2 years at state I disqualified and choked on water. This year I finally finished and finished with a 1st place overall in the state win!
