What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

What Jayonni loves about basketball is it’s always been something he can count on. He's been playing since he was 5, no matter what he's gone through, basketball has always given him a reason to keep working and pushing himself. He loves competing, being around his teammates, and knowing that all the hours he put in can make a difference when he steps on the court. He's had some ups and downs on his basketball journey, those experiences have made him appreciate the game even more.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

His dad and the people who have continued to believe in him throughout his basketball journey. His dad has always pushed him to work hard, stay humble, and keep going when things get difficult. On the court, he is inspired by players who didn’t let setbacks define them and who continued to work until they earned their opportunity. Off the court, he is inspired by the people around him who sacrifice and work hard every day. Seeing that motivates him to do the same.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Jayonni was only able to play 1 basketball season during his high school years for his school and made the most out of this 1 year. Jayonni was the captain of the team, Student Athlete Of the Month/Year, All Conference Recognition, Straight A Honor Roll and earned a Division 1 scholarship.
