What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreJP loves being active, but what he enjoys most is learning the game. He asks lots of questions and wants to understand not just what to do, but why. Whether he’s on the field or court, he tries to put what he’s learned into action. He loves the challenge of getting better, trying new things, and seeing his hard work pay off. For JP, playing sports is just as much about learning and growing as it is about having fun. But he is still little, and having fun is the most important thing.
JP is inspired by his dad and grandpa, who are by his side at nearly every game and practice. He looks up to them, wants to make them proud, and values the time they spend teaching and encouraging him. He listens closely to their advice and does his best to apply it to his game. Their support motivates him to keep working, learning, and becoming a better athlete.
One of my proudest moments came after JP lost a playoff game. He was absolutely heartbroken because he wanted to win so badly. As hard as it was to see him upset, I was also proud because you can’t teach that kind of competitive drive. At such a young age, JP already has the desire to give his best, compete hard, and never quit. Every time he steps on the field or court and gives it everything he has, I’m proud of the drive he already carries within him.
