What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreJorgia loves swimming because it constantly challenges her to improve. She loves setting goals, working hard at practice, and seeing that effort pay off when she races. Swimming has also given her great friendships and taught her that success isn't only about winning—it's about becoming better every day, supporting her teammates, and discovering what she is capable of.
Jorgia is inspired by her cousin, Teagan Kavan, a two-time Women’s College World Series champion. Watching Teagan compete at the highest level has shown Jorgia what hard work, confidence, and determination can accomplish. Having someone in her own family achieve her dreams inspires Jorgia to set big goals of her own and reminds her that success comes from the work and dedication put in every day.
My proudest moment was watching Jorgia become an Iowa State Champion in the 200 Freestyle. I knew how much work and dedication went into that race. She then represented Iowa at the USA Swimming Central Zone Championships, finishing 8th overall in the 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, and 200 IM. Seeing her compete at that level made me proud not just of her results, but of the determination that got her there.
