What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

The thing she loves the most about her sport is the confidence that she has with the horse she rides. In that moment she is in charge of the care of another living being. As a younger rider, she is often given tasks which at other times may have been left to older riders. She brings the horse to and from its paddock, she grooms the horse including picking its feet, she tacks up the horse and leads the horse to the warm up area before her ride. Not every meaningful minute at the barn is a ride.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

The person that inspires Juliet on and off the barn is her older sister, Clare. Before she decided to be a rider, she would travel to every lesson and show to support her older sister. She would sweep, feed and pet the horses before she had the opportunity to start lessons herself. She now follows in her sisters “hoof” steps and aspires to reach the same goals her sister has aspired to! Despite a 5 year gap, they’re a greater force together in the show ring!

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

The proudest moment was this past summer when Juliet competed in a regional championship in Lexington KY. This is not because of the prestige or level of the show, but because her attitude transcends even those who are veterans in the game. She works hard all year and has always done well. This past year she received high Scores in many rides, but in this show she made a score less than expected. She didn’t cry or pout. She looked forward to her next ride with a positive attitude.
