What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreI love the freedom and competitiveness football brings. When I’m on the field, I have nothing to worry about—I’m locked in and ready to compete. It’s 11 vs. 11, and when we play together and execute, the best team shows. I also value the bonds football builds; some of my closest friends came from sports. Football pushes me, and it gives me community.
Somebody that inspires me on and off the field is Pat Surtain. He’s a lockdown corner, just like me, and he’s arguably one of the best in the league. I admire his work ethic and how he performs under pressure. He also has a podcast, and I really enjoy listening to it—I relate to his mindset, so I’m inspired even more. That’s definitely Pat Surtain.
He got injured playing basketball in 7th grade—he tore his patella tendon. The doctor said it would take 6 months, but he recovered in 3 and came back stronger. In football, he dominated, going undefeated, and he also had a great basketball season. The very next year, he switched positions in football and still made varsity in 9th grade.
